Our journey began in the busy capital of India - New Delhi, led us through the deserts of Rajasthan to Varanasi and ended in Amritsar, which is in the far north and close to the border of Pakistan.

After a few days of exploring Delhi, including colorful bazaars, historical attractions like the Red Ford and the Humayan Mausoleum, our driver Jag took us to the desert town of Jaisalmer. The impressive fortress of Jaisalmer appeared to be almost surreal during sunset.

The next day we went with a camelsafari through the dunes, which could only be topped by a night in the desert under the stars. It felt like tousand and one nights.

INFO – Take warm clothes with you, the nights get terribly cold in the desert.

Our journey took us to Jodhpur, which is called the blue city, with its pastel colored houses. Further we visited the elegant city of Udaipur with its lakes and markets. The sunset at Monsoon Palace and the spontaneous invitation to an Indian wedding were an absolutely amazing experience. - If you ever get the opportunity to take part in an Indian wedding take it!

The next station - Pushkar – does not only have a strong cultural but also an economic importance. Every year thousands of Hindus pilger to the city to wash themselves. The spiritual charisma of this place made us stay a few days longer to relax.

The following days we spent in the busy old town of Jaipur. We saw the imposing, honey-colored fort in Amber and many other sights.

After more than 2 weeks of sightseeing we found an exciting change in the Ranthambore National Park, which is famous for its tigers. Two exciting safari days, unfortunately without seeing tigers ☹.

Then we went by train to Agra to admire the landmark of India, the shimmering Taj Mahal, at close range. I must say, after so many temples and fords you are a bit dull, but the Taj Mahal was one of our highlights on this trip.

We continued by train to the holy city of Varanasi with a short stop in the temple complex of Khajuraho, which is famous for its erotic temple art. After a 35 hour train ride we reached our last stop on our India trip - Amritsar. The city with its splendid Golden Temple. All together the trip took us 4 weeks.
